A little couture sewing project, practicing simple & basic techniques. Here, I will show you the steps I took to make this veil/ hat/ accesorry - multifunctional.
The fabric is a bit difficult to see, I am not sure of it's compostion, all I can say is that the fabric is similar to a shower pouf. Sheer, with plastic hexagonal warp & weft.
Fold fabric, pin and cut in three pieces.
Machine sew with three pieces, you cannot hand sew for ruching detail.
The final design to complete my seven-piece collection is finished. Including my inspiration board, and a fabric swatch is attached to each design to illustrate the type of fabric. I ordered a conglomeration of fabric swatches from online fabric warehouses, they were more than happy to send me free fabric samples.

Models strut in eight inch "knee-length" platforms in black PVC, black crinoline head-dresses, skin tight semi-transparent tights, and gorgeously executed jumpsuits in the classic combination black & gold. While Siouxsie sings "The Last Beat of my Heart." Hogg's show was clever, dark, gothic influenced, and effortlessly mysterious.

Yes, I understand that this ad campaign is a bit outdated. But I just had to post these images here, they are absolutely stunning. Watch the fashion show here. Again, this is Fall 2009 RTW.......
Roksanda Ilincic's collection for London Fashion Week was superb, a variation in colors, subtle neutrals, aqua greens, and burgundies, pinks, oh and of course, fur fur fur! Draped fabrics, and couture applique were major influences in the collection. Ilincic's collection always portrays a sophisticated women. The collection is Ready-To-Wear, but I think it deserves a title "Haute Couture". I have seen couture shows that don't even measure up to Ilincic. Ilincic understands the movement of body, for example the flow in the draped satins. The minute details in the fabric manipulation and couture detailing. The cut of the coats and sleeves are so refined and beautiful, the hair crimped and voluminous. Altogether this collection was one of my personal favorites for London Fashion Week of 2010.
In my last blog I mention that Milan Fashion Week starts today. Here's the first show, Miuccia Prada Fall-Winter Collection for 2010, go to prada.com to see the recorded footage of the live show.
Here's a video on SHOWstudio, Alex Fury is commenting on several different Fashion Weeks, and tells us what Fashion Shows he will be attending. I cannot bare to wait any longer for Fendi's new collection by Lagerfeld.
There is a reason why I have fallen deeply in love with British Fashion. British designers are not afraid to take risks, they incorporate masculinity in their design. They incorporate a certain enigmatic touch to their collections that brings Fashion to a place of whim.
Marios Schwab chooses a minimalist approach during London Fashion Week, with an emphasis on the bosom. Manipulating the fabric in ways that give emphasis but also creates an illusion, a peek-a-boo effect to the breast. Schwab manages to create a perfect balance of gothic eroticism and femininity by using dark colors and rich reds for Winter, industrial buckles and bands that act as corsets, couture detailing on the skirts. Schwab also manages to make a modern statement, in the way the fabric is cut smoothly instead of angular in approach. Overall, the collection is wonderfully executed, whimsical, and well, Fierce!
This was the first time I have ever seen a live fashion show! It was thrilling, I felt as if I were there part of fashion week, shifting through the crowd, it was truly an exhilarating and fulfilling experience, in front of a computer screen. NOW, if I could only be there in reality! I always shuffle through youtube to find the latest in certain fashion shows, and tend to find everything I need. But once SHOWstudio announced that it was streaming live from New York Fashion Week, how could I possibly pass it by! SO, here is Alexander Wang's Fall-Winter 2010 Collection that comprised of sharp tailoring in neutral grays and blacks, and surprising touches of feminine lace and velvet.
