Singer 301-A Vintage Sewing Machine
On a scale of 1-10 I would give this 1950's Singer sewing machine a rating of 8 or 9. A Gracefully and beautifully designed machine with all aluminum parts, automatic bobbin winder, extended bed plate, reverse stitch capability, slanted needle for better view of work.
The only con is that this machine sews a straight stitch only. This means there is no option for zig zag, or any other fancy decorative stitch. I rarely use those modern stitches in my garment construction anyways. Nevertheless, you can purchase attachments, such as an automatic buttonholer and automatic zig zagger. The green box in the picture is where you would store all of the sewing feet. This model comes with an array of functional and rather tricky sewing feet: a ruffler foot, a gathering foot, hem guide, bias tape foot, narrow rolled hem foot, multi-slotted binder foot, and an edge stitcher (all metal parts).
The singer 301 is a solid machine. I purchased it at my local sewing machine supply for $200. I am thinking of getting the vintage PFAFF 360 model because the sewing surface on this machine allows for easy armhole and curved seam construction.

Alexander Wang Fall 2011 - Collections
Style.com credits Wang's collection to be a return to "sexy - tough - cool", I see a return to a de-constructed look, in the satin strips of the gowns and tops, cut sleeves & sides on a few knits. And a return to menswear inspired eveningwear and a new sense of glam cool, incredibly luxe with the use of fur, and satin and the occasional Menswear inspired shoe in metallic.
